Commenting on the changes to out-of-hours surgery at Withybush hospital announced by Hywel Dda University Health Board, local Senedd Member Paul Davies said:
“The news that there will be a change to emergency out-of-hours surgery at Withybush Hospital will understandably cause concern for residents in Preseli Pembrokeshire. Patients must feel confident that they have access to the very best care and services in an emergency situation and the fact that patients may have to be transported to other hospitals is very worrying.”
“Hywel Dda University Health Board has confirmed that this is a temporary change in response to staff vacancies and long-term sickness. Moving forward, it’s vital the Welsh Government urgently intervenes to address this matter and ensures that out-of-hours surgery is resumed as quickly as possible – and I will be raising this at the Senedd at the first available opportunity.”
“In the meantime, the Health Board must prioritise resolving its workforce arrangements and leave no stone unturned in ensuring that Withybush hospital can provide out-of-hours emergency surgery quickly.”
