Commenting on a Wales Audit Office report – which concludes that further improvement is required in local authority and police accounts – Shadow Minister for Finance Paul Davies AM said:

"While some improvement in accounting is welcome, significant worries remain.

"Taxpayers will rightly question management of public money – particularly in the current climate.

"With unacceptably high council chief salaries already in the spotlight, public trust on efficient use of money is as important as ever.

"This report's recommendations must be taken on by all and Carwyn Jones and Welsh Labour must ensure further improvement is swift."
