Stopping rogue scallopers and checking the size of fish catches are just two of the vital duties carried out by the South Wales Sea Fisheries protection vessel, The
Cranogwen.
The Fishery Protection Vessel, which operates out of Milford Haven, patrols the sea from Cardigan to Cardiff – an area of 4,685 square kilometres.
The importance of having such a boat was outlined to Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies when he was given a tour of the boat.
"The Cranogwen is a lynchpin for South Wales Sea Fisheries in its job of regulating and managing the inshore fisheries around Pembrokeshire," said Mr Davies.
"Without their presence the sea bed and seas would be a free-for-all. It was a privilege to get an insider's guide to their work."
