Commenting on the Welsh Government's announcement of five new enterprise zones across Wales, local Assembly Member Paul Davies has expressed his disappointment after hearing that Pembrokeshire has not been selected as one of the five locations.

The five enterprise zones could receive rate relief and may benefit from tax breaks, but no details have yet been forthcoming from the Welsh Government. The Welsh zones will be at Anglesey, Ebbw Vale, Deeside, St Athan in the Vale of Glamorgan, and Cardiff.

Paul Davies said: "It is extremely disappointing that Pembrokeshire has not been selected as an enterprise zone location, given the importance of the area to the UK's energy sector. Since becoming the Assembly Member for Preseli Pembrokeshire in 2007, I have continuously called on the Welsh Government to earmark the area as a regeneration zone, but it appears that these calls are falling on deaf ears."

"I hope very much that the Welsh Government will consider Pembrokeshire as a location for an enterprise zone in the future; and I will continue to raise this issue in the Assembly Chamber at every available opportunity."
