Welsh Conservative Leader calls out recall of Assembly for being an “over-the-top political stunt"

Paul Davies AM, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, has called out the Welsh Labour Government and Plaid Cymru following the recall of the Assembly over the prorogation of the UK Parliament as an “over-the-top political stunt”.

Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Paul Davies AM, commented:

“This recall requested by Welsh Labour and Plaid Cymru is just an over-the-top political stunt.  We’ve spent three years debating Brexit, rehashing the same arguments, the same opinions and getting no-where. MPs voted to include a no deal Brexit as part of the options open to the Prime Minister, but now when we’re at an impasse with the EU they want to give up and re-run the referendum.

“Welsh Labour and Plaid want to waste time talking about events in Westminster, events which have overtaken Labour and Plaid’s original plans; the recall is a stunt gone wrong and a waste of time and tax payers’ money. Labour, Lib Dem and Plaid MPs are playing shenanigans in Westminster, where Welsh MPs have a say, and that is where this motion belongs.

“The people of Wales voted to leave. The parties who claim they stand up for Wales should listen to what the Welsh people are saying; we have had enough. Stop the games, stop the arguments, get on with improving public services; and that is exactly what Boris Johnson as our Prime Minister is doing.

“Maybe the Welsh Labour Government should spend more time worrying about the mess they’ve created in Wales with the majority of NHS health boards in special measures or targeted intervention, with A&E waiting times never being achieved and letting people suffer by failing to treat people with urgent cancer diagnoses quick enough.”
