Preseli Pembrokeshire Assembly Member Paul Davies has pledged his support to arts Theatr Gwaun in the lead up to the Cabinet meeting to discuss its future next week. Following a public meeting on 3rd December last year, it seems that Theatr Gwaun would remain open until March 31st, but it is then likely to be closed by Pembrokeshire County Council due to tight financial constraints.
Paul Davies said, "Theatr Gwaun is essential not only to Fishguard but to all of North Pembrokeshire. Its educational and cultural value cannot be ignored. I appreciate that times are tough, but the Friends of Theatr Gwaun have presented an Outline Project Plan which clearly shows how the theatre could have a sustainable future. It shows how running costs could be reduced by up to 60% in the first two years."
"It is clear that people of Fishguard and the surrounding areas are determined to take over Theatr Gwaun and manage it locally. This is a wonderful example of people power and community spirit in action."
"Once again, I would urge Pembrokeshire County Council to consider the Friends of Theatr Gwaun's proposals. It is absolutely essential that everything possible is done to ensure the Theatr's survival. I will of course, continue to lobby and make representations to the local authority on this matter."
