Preseli Pembrokeshire Assembly Member Paul Davies has expressed his concerns regarding the recent WJEC GCSE English language results. The general percentage of students who received results far below what was expected was around 25-30% in Pembrokeshire. In response, the WJEC has now decided to remark some, but not all, of the English exams.

Following a Welsh Conservatives debate at the Senedd, Mr Davies said, "I felt it was important to speak up and reflect the views that I had received from across Pembrokeshire on this very disappointing matter. Despite teachers' hard work and dedication, many children across Pembrokeshire received grades far lower than expected. Naturally, many students and teachers were shocked and upset that they didn't receive a fair grade."

He added, "English language is an essential life skill in the global race and it's therefore vital that students can have confidence that their English examinations are marked properly and that they get the results that they deserve. I hope that the Welsh Government now does everything it can to support students and teachers whilst a review of this fiasco takes place – and provides cast iron guarantees that the students that sat those exams will now receive a fair grade."
