Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies has welcomed plans by the county council to buy Goodwick's dilapidated railway station.
The Council has decided to buy two acres at Goodwick station yard, including the run-down station building, to help with transport infrastructure improvements.
"I have been supporting plans put forward in the regional transport plan to reopen Goodwick train station and add extra rail services to Fishguard and this is a first step towards that goal," said Mr Davies.
Trains currently stop at nearby Fishguard harbour but local residents have been pushing for the service to stop in the village instead. Mr Davies had also hoped that an extra five trains a day would be added to the line but this was dealt a blow last week when Network Rail's Route Utilisation Strategy dismissed the idea.
"I shall continue to lobby for the upgrade of Goodwick station and an increase in trains to Fishguard," he said. "It is a major Irish-UK link and it's ridiculous that this line has only two trains a day."
