Shadow Welsh Education Minister Paul Davies has pledged to support parents fighting proposed music cuts at one of Pembrokeshire's most musical schools.
Instrumental lessons at Greenhill School in Tenby are under threat because the school has a £59,000 budget shortfall.
Mr Davies has now been lobbied by a number of parents concerned about the cuts. He has pledged to do what he can to help.
"Sadly schools across Wales are having to cut services because of a lack of funding from the Labour-Plaid administered Welsh Assembly Government," he said.
"If Greenhill decides to cut its music teaching then it would be a very serious blow to one of the best musical schools in West Wales.
"Schools are under increasing pressure and the poor settlement from the Assembly Government in areas such as further education has had a knock-on effect across the educational sector.
"I am also concerned that should the proposed cut go ahead at Greenhill, there is also a very real danger that other schools will follow suit and we could see peripatetic music teachers being laid off across the County.
"My Conservative colleagues and I have been pressing the Government to reconsider the settlement given to the education sector.
"I will continue to fight to ensure that our schools can provide the very best education for our children and young people."
