Services to be re-established with a Welsh Conservative Government

Withybush Hospital

Local Assembly Member Paul Davies has reiterated that a Conservative Welsh Government would re-establish full time paediatric services and special care baby services at Withybush hospital. Four months from a Welsh general election, Mr Davies made it clear that should a Welsh Conservative government be formed in May, the drive to centralise services from Withybush hospital would not only be stopped, but key health services would also be returned to the site.

Mr Davies said: “Wales has seen the largest reductions in health spending of any of the UK nations after the Welsh government failed to protect NHS spending and that’s been felt right across the country. Here in Pembrokeshire, communities across the county have been fighting to retain services at Withybush hospital and they deserve a Welsh government that listens to them and delivers that.”

He added, “I have consistently opposed any downgrading of services at Withybush hospital, which has unfairly forced patients and their families to travel further for treatment. I’m pleased that our announcement reinforces our commitment to delivering health services locally and maintaining those key services for the people of Pembrokeshire – it’s nothing short of what the local communities deserve. People locally have made their voices heard. They want ‘Hands off our Hospital’ and a Welsh Conservative government not only recognises that voice, but supports it too.”
