A road in Fishguard has been denied funding for a footpath from the Welsh Assembly Government earlier this week.
The A487 road from Ty Newydd Cottages to Parc-y-Morfa Farm has no pedestrian pathway or pavement and vehicles can travel up 60 mph on this stretch of road. The scheme will now have to be considered for the next financial year.
Local Assembly Member, Paul Davies said, "I am extremely disappointed by this news. The A487 is used by pedestrians and I share the concerns of the local residents that there are some serious safety issues facing pedestrians who undertake walking along this road.
"Devastating consequences could be caused if a pedestrian got caught in the slipstream and was flung out into the road into the path of an oncoming vehicle.
As a result, it is essential that the Welsh Assembly Government does everything in its power to improve this situation, not ignore it. I will continue to put pressure on the Deputy First Minister to re-address this issue and campaign on behalf of the local residents."
