Commenting on plans to shut Haverfordwest's driving test centre from February 15 Paul Davies AM said:
"This will be a huge blow to everyone who lives in this end of the County and who is planning to take their test whether on a car, motorbike or lorry.
"Car learner drivers will have to travel to Pembroke Dock or Cardigan to take their test in unfamiliar surroundings and it's still not known where motorbike or LGV learners will have to go for their tests.
"Driving instructors will also be affected as learners will migrate to the other towns to learn the test routes.
"This is an unacceptable situation with learners and professionals caught up in a spat between the Driving Standards Agency and the County Council who cannot seem to agree on a site for the test centre at Withybush.
"I shall be requesting an urgent meeting with Pembrokeshire County Council to try to help resolve this issue."
Conservative Councillor Richard Hancock whose ward includes the airfield where the test centre is currently sited said: "This has come completely out of the blue and everybody wants to keep the test centre in Haverfordwest if at all possible.
"I am working with town councillors and local landowners to see if we can overcome this problem."
