FAILED plans to build Cardigan's new hospital at Bath-house must not result in a rushed decision to build in the wrong place, says Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies.
Councillors have thrown out plans to build the new hospital, social care housing and a new supermarket on a town centre site.
Now Mr Davies is pressing for a local solution to be found.
"The new hospital must be built either in the town or close to the outskirts of town," he said.
Health officials and local landowners are meeting to discuss four other possible sites for the new development.
"Whatever happens I have made it clear again and again that the most important thing is that the new hospital is easy to access from North Pembrokeshire," added Mr Davies.
"Once again I must stress that for my constituents that means having it in or very near to Cardigan.
"We all want to see a speedy resolution to this problem but I would also urge caution, we mustn't end up with a hospital built in the wrong place."
