Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies has reacted angrily to the news that Pembrokeshire NHS Trust is to be merged with Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire.
"The merger was always a done deal with only the merest nod to a consultation period and even that didn't include those who'll be affected most – the public," he said.
"I fear that Pembrokeshire will lose out when the merger goes ahead. Now that it's to be part of a supersized Trust that stretches from Aberystwyth to Llanelli you can guarantee that the bulk of the jobs and specialist centres will end up where most of the people are – and that's further East.
"It's always the peripheries that suffer as we've seen in other areas like the dualling of the A40, all the money and effort is too often channeled to the centres of population.
"Edwina Hart says that the merger will improve services and patient access and I do hope that happens. But at what cost will it be achieved?"
