Haverfordwest shoppers donated a generous 1030.4 kg of food and £187.49 to Pembrokeshire foodbank (in association with Trussell Trust) on the three day National Collection at Tesco Extra Haverfordwest. The food was collected to help feed local people facing crisis. A small army of volunteers gave their time on 3rd, 4th and 5th July to make the supermarket collection such a success.
Pembrokeshire foodbank manager, Tirzah Redman, explained "Volunteers asked shoppers to donate an item or two to help feed local people in crisis. The food that is given out by the foodbank is donated by the public, which makes collections like this so important. The foodbank wouldn't be able to run without such giving from the public".
Tesco's Better Service Manager, Jill Gosling, said "Once again, this has been a very successful foodbank collection at Tesco Extra Haverfordwest. Many thanks to our loyal and generous customers".
Welsh Assembly Member, Paul Davies, visited the store on the Friday and met Pembrokeshire foodbank volunteers. He stated "I was delighted to visit representatives of the Pembrokeshire foodbank at Tesco recently who were doing a fantastic job in collecting provisions from shoppers. It is clear once again that the people of Pembrokeshire are very generous when it comes to donating to good causes."
