Pembrokeshire's school buildings may be left in disrepair because the improvement budget for Welsh schools has been slashed by more than a third.

The figure set aside for repairs to Welsh schools has gone from £99 million to £65 million in the recent local government settlement.

Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies fears that the number of school buildings in the county needing repairs will only increase.

"This is a very disappointing cut," he said. "The backlog in school building repairs and modernisation in Wales is already in excess of £800 million.

"Slashing this budget to just £65 million means local authorities won't even be able to scratch the surface in terms of the repairs and renovations needed.

"It is not right that our children and teachers have to work in sub‐standard conditions."
