A petition calling for the Welsh Government to do more to ensure a timely diagnosis of autism in children in Pembrokeshire has been received by the National Assembly's Petitions Committee.

Campaigners from across Pembrokeshire gathered outside the Senedd this week to have their voices heard. Sadly, the children of some members of the local branch have been waiting up to seven years for a diagnostic assessment and this lengthy wait for diagnosis is having a huge impact on families across Pembrokeshire.

Mr Davies said: "I am delighted that the Assembly's Petition Committee has accepted the petition raised by the National Autistic Society's Pembrokeshire branch. The branch has secured 902 signatures, which shows the strength of feeling on this issue and I am pleased to offer my support in any way that I can. Ultimately, what we all want see is a timely diagnosis for all children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder across Wales so that they can be supported appropriately to lead fulfilled lives. For my part, I have raised this issue on the floor of the Assembly Chamber with the First Minister and the Education Minister as well as making representations to Hywel Dda local health board. In the meantime, whilst this petition is being considered, I will continue to highlight this issue at every available opportunity to ensure we do not lose any momentum."
