Pembrokeshire's Assembly Members have called on the county council to consider saving local post offices from closure.
Sub-postmasters in the county are due to hear in early June which branches will be closed. But in Essex the council has offered to take over 15 post offices with a view to making them profitable in three years.
"We would like to see Pembrokeshire County Council at least explore this possibility," said Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies.
His South Pembrokeshire colleague Angela Burns added: "Post masters and mistresses have an axe hanging over them. The least we owe them is to look into all the options."
The Post Office review has already seen 280 outlets across Wales closed in the last six years. But Essex County Council has offered a ray of hope to 15 of its closure- threatened post offices by winning government approval to take over the branches. The council is negotiating a buy-out price from the Post Office and each branch is now undergoing a criteria assessment for financial support.
Essex council hopes the branches will be able to make a profit by combining postal services with council services.
Essex County Council head of media Giles Roca has said:"This blows the whole post office closure programme to smithereens.
"It means that any other council can now use this campaign as a model to fight back."
Fifteen other councils have already been in touch with Essex to find out more about the scheme.
"If Essex County Council can make this work then there's no reason why Pembrokeshire can't at least look into the option," said Mrs Burns. "We have written them asking them to do so."
Paul Davies added: "Rural post offices are the lifeblood of some communities and I hope the council will at least look into this possibility."
