Local Assembly Member Paul Davies has welcomed the news that Orkambi, a drug used in the treatment of cystic fibrosis will now be made available for patients living in Wales. An agreement has been made between Vertex and the NHS Wales Procurement Service with the intention to allow the highest priority patients to access treatment in December and all eligible patients being offered treatment from 2020.

Mr Davies said, “This is a game changer and will make a huge difference to people living with cystic fibrosis in Pembrokeshire and right across Wales. I’m pleased that the Welsh Government have accepted that Orkambi should be made available to patients and that an agreement has finally been made. Patients living with cystic fibrosis will be accessing this vital treatment sooner rather than later and that will welcomed by those families affected by cystic fibrosis.”
