Preseli Pembrokeshire Assembly Member Paul Davies is expressing his concern for dairy farmers following NFU warnings of a milk price ‘nightmare’, as First Milk introduces a cut of one pence per litre less for many farmers this month.
Mr Davies said, “This is deeply worrying news for dairy farmers in Pembrokeshire, and indeed the whole of Wales who will now be receiving milk prices far below the cost of production. I cannot see how this will be sustainable in the long term. The Welsh Government must do more to support the supply chain, build markets and deliver a sustainable milk price for our farmers.”
He added, “Both industry and Governments must work together now to protect the sustainability of our dairy industry. Our dairy farmers rightly deserve fair prices, particularly during this period of market volatility and I will be raising this matter with the Welsh Government whenever the opportunity presents itself.”
