At the Royal College of Nursing AGM last week in Haverfordwest, Preseli Pembrokeshire Assembly Member Paul Davies met with RCN members to discuss a number of issues facing the nursing sector as well as local issues affecting the people of Pembrokeshire.
Mr Davies said, "I'm grateful that I was given the opportunity to address RCN members at their recent AGM. I'm aware that there are several national and local issues of interest to the RCN and I was happy to discuss ways in which I can help promote these issues at an Assembly level. Since my election in 2007, my number one priority has been and still is to ensure we have the highest quality health services delivered locally in Pembrokeshire and I have been pressing the Welsh Government on the retention of services at Withybush hospital throughout this period."
He added, "This summer, I have also campaigned to save the Special Care Baby unit at Withybush hospital. We have already heard from clinicians how closing this unit would have a detrimental effect on families of unborn babies across Pembrokeshire and it is important that the campaign against the closure of these lifesaving services continue. Moving forward, I will continue to campaign for the retention of core services at Withybush hospital; and continue to work with groups such as the RCN to ensure that any issues affecting the nursing sector continue to be heard at an Assembly level."
