Assembly Member for Preseli Pembrokeshire, Paul Davies, has accompanied RSPCA inspector Keith Hogben on several calls in and around the region. The ride along gave Mr Davies a chance to experience what RSPCA inspectors deal with on a day to day basis. Throughout the course of a busy day, they dealt with a number of routine calls on Monday (7 December).

Mr Davies said: “I was delighted to accompany Keith, a local RSPCA inspector for the day and see first-hand some of the challenges that an RSPCA inspector faces on a daily basis.

“It’s a difficult job, but one that’s so crucial in safeguarding animals in Pembrokeshire. The calls that Keith and I responded to were quite varied and ranged from domestic calls to even visiting some seals! It was a great experience and I look forward to working with the RSPCA in Pembrokeshire to tackle animal welfare issues in the future.”

RSPCA inspector Keith Hogben added: “Animal welfare is an important issue to the people of Wales and it’s important that we are able to show our Assembly Members the scope of our work and our partnership with the general public.

“During the ride-along I think Mr Davies appreciated the varied role of an RSPCA inspector and that it is not just knocking on doors dealing with complaints, but dealing with all types of animals.”

A number of Assembly Members and Members of Parliament across Wales have spent days-out with local RSPCA inspectors, gaining valuable insight into the work the Society does to uphold and improve standards of animal welfare.
