Mr Davies, who submitted a response to Pembrokeshire County Council’s consultation stressed the effect that this decision could have on local businesses and the local economy.
Mr Davies said, ‘I’m disappointed that Pembrokeshire County Council has decided to press ahead with plans to end free parking at seven sites in Pembrokeshire. This will surely have a detrimental effect on high-street businesses in those areas. These parking sites make local businesses more accessible to the community and encourage safe and sensible parking.”
He added, “There will also be an effect on local tourism. Tourism is an essential part of the Pembrokeshire economy and the plans to start charging for parking in some areas will have a detrimental effect on visitors and their experience in Pembrokeshire. We should be doing all that we can to encourage visitors to the area, not put up barriers.”
