Local Assembly Member Paul Davies has recently attended the British Lung Foundation's "Breathe Easy" event at the National Assembly for Wales, to learn more about lung disease across Wales and to meet patients of lung disease from all parts of the country.
The British Lung Foundation used the event to campaign for a ban to stop people smoking in their cars when carrying children. Currently, around 300,000 children in the UK go to their GP each year with illnesses related to passive smoking.
Paul Davies said "I was delighted to attend the Breathe Easy event at the Assembly. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet lung disease patients and to hear first-hand their experiences of the health service. It also gave me an insight into the valuable work that the British lung Foundation do on behalf of these patients in terms of raising awareness of lung diseases and campaigning for more effective services for patients."
"It is essential that the Health Minister acknowledges the importance of lung health across Wales. One in five people in Wales are living with a lung disease and the Welsh Government must now work with groups like the British lung Foundation to ensure that our current service provision is much more effective in the future. Events such as the Breathe Easy event are a great chance for lung disease patients to have their views heard at the Assembly and I hope now that the Welsh Government acts on them."
