Local AM Welcomes Report to Improve Wales’ resilience to Coastal Flooding

Flooding

A major report published by Natural Resources Wales, which made 47 recommendations to improve Wales' resilience to coastal flooding in the future, has been welcomed by local Assembly Member Paul Davies.

Speaking at the Senedd, Mr Davies said, "This is a very important report which states that while national defences held up in the majority of cases and that response co-ordination was effective, there were still exceptions where flooding did occur and it's vital that we learn the lessons as to why those incidents occurred and whether they could have been prevented."

Since the winter storms, Natural Resources Wales workers have been repairing important flood defences locally in places such as Amroth and Newgale.

Mr Davies added, "Sadly, some communities across Pembrokeshire were severely affected by the floods earlier this year and so it's good to see Natural Resources Wales tackling the flood defences."

"Indeed, the report states that coastal communities need to be more engaged in developing national policy and, through multi agency support, in a better position to develop their own flood plans and be more self-sufficient. Therefore, I look forward to hearing more about how the Welsh Government is working with coastal communities across Pembrokeshire to make them more self-resilient in the future."
