Local Assembly Member Paul Davies has voiced concerns over the potential closure of Milford Haven Coastguard Station. Mr Davies responded to a debate on this issue in the Assembly last week on the new proposals which would see 23 jobs lost in Pembrokeshire.
Paul Davies said "I am very concerned about these proposals, under which Milford Haven could potentially lose 23 highly-skilled jobs. Closing the Milford Haven coastguard station could also result in a lack of local knowledge to deal with some of the incidents in Pembrokeshire and west Wales."
"However, I understand that the plans do not actually affect the provision of front-line rescue services through volunteer coastguards or search and rescue partners, such as the RNLI. Some of the plans will include more investment in front-line services, with plans to improve the leadership, management and support that are given to volunteer coastguard rescue officers and I appreciate that these proposals could lead to a more integrated national service."
"I will be giving my full backing to keeping the Milford Haven station open in order to protect these highly-skilled jobs. I will be feeding into the consultation process, and I would like to encourage as many people as possible to also feed into the consultation."
