Local Assembly Member Paul Davies recently visited the ongoing work to build a new RNLI lifeboat station at St David’s. RNLI volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service across the UK and Republic of Ireland from 236 lifeboat stations. They also have more than 1,000 lifeguards on over 180 beaches and operate a specialist flood rescue team, which can respond anywhere across the UK and Ireland when inland flooding puts lives at risk.
Mr Davies said, “Pembrokeshire is famous for its beaches – and whilst a day out at the beach can be a lot of fun, there are also many potential hazards for locals and holidaymakers. The RNLI work tirelessly to protect lives in coastal communities and their volunteers do a fantastic job of ensuring our coast remains as safe as possible by educating people about everything from rip currents to how cold water shock can affect your body. We are very lucky to have such an important service on our doorstep and I wholeheartedly support the work of the RNLI in protecting people across Pembrokeshire.”
