Support and protection for local market traders was raised at the National Assembly recently by Preseli Pembrokeshire Assembly Member Paul Davies. Mr Davies questioned the First Minister on the Welsh Government's support for market traders, following recent concerns over the future of Haverfordwest market.
Mr Davies said, "Markets play an important role in the local economy, providing jobs and supporting local entrepreneurship and so it's essential that the Welsh Government does all that it can to protect them. They are also a fundamental part of the local community and bring people together, in the way that online shopping and out of town retail centre just can't do. Haverfordwest is a historic town and the market has a steep history here. I very much hope that the fears of local traders are alleviated as soon as possible and that Pembrokeshire County Council will work with the market to ensure its sustainability for years to come."
