Local AM Raises UEFA U-turn in Assembly Chamber

Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies has recently raised the UEFA decision not to host matches for the Ladies Under 19s Tournament at Haverfordwest County's New Bridge Meadow Stadium

Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies has recently raised the UEFA decision not to host matches for the Ladies Under 19s Tournament at Haverfordwest County's New Bridge Meadow Stadium, next year, with the Minister for Housing, Regeneration and Heritage, Huw Lewis AM. Mr Davies asked whether the Minister would lobby the Football Association for Wales and UEFA to reconsider its U-turn, following their previous commitment to host matches at New Bridge Meadow Stadium.

Mr Davies said, "I am deeply disappointed at UEFA's and the FAW's decision not to hold matches in Pembrokeshire, despite a previous commitment to do so. I have had the pleasure of visiting the New Bridge Meadow Stadium on a number of occasions over the last few years. I believe it's fair to say that the work that has gone on in recent years to further upgrade facilities at New Bridge Meadow has meant that it is now seen as one of the top stadiums in west Wales."

He added, "I understand that from the Minister's response that he will be looking to get to the bottom of the issue and I will be monitoring the progress very carefully. I hope that UEFA and the FAW will reconsider their decision to host matches in Pembrokeshire and take advantage of our excellent facilities."
