Local Assembly Member Paul Davies presented a cheque for almost £3,000 to Wolfscastle over 60s on behalf of the Awards for All Scheme, which aims to help improve local communities and the lives of people most in need. The over 60s club have decided to use the funds for various educational visits to local places of interest, including the Maritime Museum in Swansea and the Tenby Art Gallery.
The Awards for All Wales is a simple small grants scheme making awards of between £500 and £5,000 and a total of 48 community-based projects across Wales have been awarded under the latest round of the programme. This funding helps to establish groups and clubs, promote learning, increase volunteering opportunities and help build stronger communities.
Mr Davies said: "I was delighted to present the Wolfscastle over 60s club with a cheque for almost £3,000, which I'm sure will be put to good use. I am always pleased to attend events in Wolfscastle due to the tremendous community spirit that the village has; and I look forward to attending many more events over the next couple of years."
Mr Paul Hart, Chairman of the Over 60's Club, added, "We are very fortunate to receive this sum of money towards the Club, which will be used for our educational visits to local and national places of interest during the coming year. We are most grateful to Awards for All for the support given to us whilst making the application. Although we are only a small group of approximately 20 members, it shows what we can achieve when we work together in order to ensure that funding is available when needed."
