World Mental Health Day was celebrated at the Senedd earlier this week as the culmination of "Movin' On Up", the summer-long national campaign led by mental health service users and carers and supported by mental health charities Hafal, Bipolar UK and the Mental Health Foundation. Local Assembly Member Paul Davies attended the event along with a large contingent of service users and carers from across Wales, plus key mental health professionals.
Speaking after the event, Mr Davies said, "I was delighted to be a part of the World Mental Health Day celebrations. Mental health admissions have been growing since 2006 and we know that one in ten adults in Wales suffers from a mental illness. Therefore, it is essential that we recognise and prepare for the challenges ahead. The Mental Health (Wales) Measure has finally been implemented which should improve people's experiences and ensure that they can access the support that they need. I now look forward to the Welsh Government's new Mental Health Strategy, "Together for Mental Health" which will be released in due course."
