Paul Davies AM partners with new Welsh Government scheme that aims to make homes warmer and cosier

Paul Davies, Assembly Member for Preseli Pembrokeshire has teamed up with the Welsh Government to host an advice surgery to help people in Pembrokeshire who are finding it hard to heat their homes.

Mr Davies will be joined by experts from the Welsh Government's Nest scheme in the Acorn Centre, The Mount, Milford Haven on Friday 16 September to give advice about how Nest could help them.

Nest, which is a new Welsh Government scheme open to all householders in Wales, providing advice on saving energy, money management, fuel tariffs, benefit entitlement and home improvements to help reduce the cost of energy bills.

Paul Davies said: "Ensuring people can properly heat and insulate their homes is an issue that is regularly raised with me at my constituency surgeries. Sometimes people are unaware of the various help and assistance that is available. I am therefore very pleased to be able to hold a joint advice surgery with Nest to try to help residents of Preseli Pembrokeshire."

Householders in receipt of means tested benefits that live in very energy inefficient homes may also be eligible for a Welsh Government funded energy improvement package, managed by British Gas.

Following a visit to check what you are eligible for, a Nest assessor will recommend a tailored package of improvements to help make the property warmer and save money on energy bills. These may include a new central heating boiler, loft insulation, cavity wall and solid wall insulation, draught proofing for doors and windows and green technology such as solar panels.

Gary Conway, Nest scheme manager, said: "British Gas is committed to helping those in most need heat their homes for less. A lot of people who are struggling to heat their homes may not even realise the difference that energy efficiency measures could make to them. For example, just insulating a loft could save up to £145 a year on heating bills."

If you are unable to attend the advice surgery and would still like to speak to someone from Nest you can telephone Freephone 0800 512 012 for advice on reducing fuel bills and to find out if you qualify for a package of energy improvements.
