Local Assembly Member Paul Davies met with Aileen Napier, the new Country Manager for Wales for Parkinson's UK and Parkinson's representatives at a recent event at the Senedd.
The aim of the event was to launch Parkinson's UK Wales Manifesto and mark Parkinson's Awareness Week.
The Manifesto sets out three pledges based on the needs of people with Parkinson's in Wales. The pledges are for people with Parkinson's to have timely access to the right health and social care. Secondly, to get the medication they need, when they need it and finally, to ensure that all staff involved in managing care for people with Parkinson's have a good understanding of the condition.
Paul Davies said "I'm delighted to take part in this manifesto launch and it is now important for the Welsh Assembly Government to look into improving the health and social care provision for Parkinson's disease sufferers in Wales. Currently, around 6,000 people in Wales have Parkinson's and it is essential that anybody suffering from Parkinson's has access to the right care and support they need."
"For more information about Parkinson's disease in Pembrokeshire and the support that is available, please contact the local branch on 01646 690063. The local branch meets regularly at Withybush Conference Centre. They provide a range of services such as physiotherapy provisions and offering support and advice to individuals, families and carers."
