Preseli Pembrokeshire Assembly Member Paul Davies has taken a trip on the Pembrokeshire Town Rider Scheme bus, to witness the experience first-hand and meet with users of the scheme. The Pembrokeshire Town Rider scheme is run by Pembrokeshire Association of Community Transport Organisations (PACTO) in association with Pembrokeshire County Council; and is designed for elderly and disabled residents who are eligible for a bus pass but who suffer mobility problems.
Local AM Paul Davies said: "I was delighted to experience the Town Rider scheme first-hand. It was a great opportunity to meet with users and listen to how the service has improved their lives. The scheme allows people with mobility problems to access vital facilities and services as well as helping people feel more socially active in their community. This service is a lifeline to many of my constituents in Pembrokeshire, and ensures that people are no longer a prisoner in their own home."
He added: "I'm pleased that the Welsh Government has decided to review its decision to cease funding for the service in the short term; and I hope that this will become a permanent decision. In the meantime, I will continue to campaign for the permanent funding of this initiative and raise this issue with the Minister at every available opportunity."
Councillor Sarah Llewellyn said, "This is an invaluable service to the people of Haverfordwest, allowing elderly and vulnerable residents to access their local amenities. I am very proud to support the Town Rider Scheme, which ensures that the door of independence remains open for its many users - whose needs cannot be fully met by mainstream public transport."
