Local Assembly Member, Paul Davies is calling on residents and businesses to vote in BT's fibre optic broadband initiative, Race to Infinity.

Local Assembly Member, Paul Davies is calling on residents and businesses to vote in BT's fibre optic broadband initiative, Race to Infinity.

The initiative has called on communities to take part in a nationwide survey which will record the highest areas of demand for the service. The top five areas in terms of demand will have the super-fast cables fitted by early 2012, while the company looks to have installed the new cables in two-thirds of the country by 2015. In addition, BT will also donate £5,000 of computer equipment to a local community project.

Mr Davies said, "I would strongly urge everybody to take part in this survey and vote for their area to receive super-fast broadband connections locally. This is a great opportunity for rural communities to have their voices heard on a national level and if a community can get more than 75% of its population to register their vote, they could be in with a chance of winning."

"By taking part in the race and voting for their local phone exchange to be upgraded, there is hope that this new technology can be rolled out to more rural areas if there is sufficient demand. To cast your vote, log on to www.racetoinfinity.bt.com/home and enter your postcode. The competition ends on December 31st 2010."
