Local Assembly Member Paul Davies this week invited a local student to undertake a two week work placement with him, making this the 25th work placement offered by Paul since his initial election in 2007. Mr Davies offered Rebecca Llewhellin, a recent politics graduate of Cardiff University, the opportunity to work alongside his team in both his constituency office in Haverfordwest and in his Assembly office in Cardiff Bay. During her time with Paul Rebecca has been able to research and scrutinise policy, assist in the construction of questions and statements and been responsible for drafting correspondence. In addition Rebecca has had the opportunity to attend numerous events, sit in on public debates and participate in a doorstep surgery.
Over the last four years, Mr Davies has offered numerous students from across Pembrokeshire the chance to work in his offices and will continue to accommodate young people who wish to gain first-hand experience of the political environment during his second term as Preseli Pembrokeshire's AM.
Speaking from the Assembly Office this morning, Rebecca commented: "I have always had a true passion for politics and my time with Paul Davies, both in his constituency office and his Assembly office in Cardiff, has only intensified my interests. I feel very lucky to have had this great opportunity to gain practical experience to match my academic studies, particularly with such an established and proactive Assembly Member. Paul's enthusiasm for both local and national issues has only encouraged me in my pursuit of a career in politics, and I have learnt a great deal during my time with him which I believe will help me to secure this ambition."
Paul Davies said, "I am pleased that Rebecca has enjoyed her time shadowing me in my role as an Assembly Member. I am more than happy to offer students from across Pembrokeshire the chance to work in my offices and I will continue to accommodate young people who wish to gain first-hand experience of the political environment in which I work."
