Local Assembly Member Paul Davies is showing his support for ‘International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women’, also known as ‘White Ribbon Day’ by supporting the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence campaign. The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence uses the 16 days between 25th November and International Human Rights Day on 10th December to reinforce that eliminating all forms of violence against women is a human rights issue and that the act of perpetrating violence against women is a human rights violation.
Mr Davies said, “I’m proud to support White Ribbon Day by backing the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence campaign. Too many women in Pembrokeshire, and indeed, the whole of Wales are experiencing domestic abuse and it has got to stop. A multi-agency approach must be adopted by Governments at all levels, to ensure that decision-makers are fully consulting with stakeholders who deal with domestic abuse on a day-to-day basis.”
He added, “An estimated 750,000 children and young people across the UK witness or experience domestic abuse every year and this can lead to an increased risk of behavioural problems, a distorted view of normal relationships and emotional trauma. Therefore, it’s absolutely crucial that we all work collaboratively to identify and report any signs of abuse in our local communities.”
