Preseli Pembrokeshire Assembly Member, Paul Davies recently attended the unveiling of a new war memorial in Goodwick. To commemorate the centenary of the First World War, the Fishguard and Goodwick branch of the Royal British Legion raised funds to erect a war memorial on Goodwick High Street.
Following the unveiling Mr Davies said, "I was honoured to be present for the unveiling of the war memorial in Goodwick. This memorial is a timely reminder of the sacrifice of Welsh soldiers in past conflicts and it's only right that those servicemen and women who lost their lives for our country should receive this kind of public recognition. It's absolutely crucial that we remember the sacrifices that the armed forces and their families made – and continue to make – every day for the safety of our country."
He added, "Understanding and preserving our heritage is, I believe, an essential part of the cultural and social fabric of our country and that is why I have been advocating, the protection of War Memorials across Wales, so that future generations can, not only remember the sacrifices made by so many for our freedoms, but to educate our children about previous conflicts and provide them with a greater understanding of how we have become the nation we are today."
