Paul Davies, Assembly Member for Preseli Pembrokeshire has this week attended the launch of the additional train services to Fishguard, attended by Local Government and Communities Minister Carl Sargeant AM. The five extra train services between Fishguard and Carmarthen will include through services to Swansea, Cardiff, Manchester and London.
Paul Davies said: "This is fantastic news for Fishguard and Pembrokeshire. This additional service will benefit the local economy and help people travel around Pembrokeshire much more easily. These services will also make Fishguard much more accessible to the rest of the country and the UK and it will support Fishguard's regeneration plans for the future."
It is understood that the extra five trains that will run in both directions every day between Mondays and Saturdays are in addition to the two current services that connect with the ferries to Ireland.
Commenting on this, Mr Davies added "This timetable will have a positive effect on visitor experience in the area and provide a welcomed boost for tourism in Pembrokeshire."
"We must acknowledge the hard work of people like Hatti Woakes at the North Pembrokeshire Transport Forum; and to young people like Sam Faulkner and Joanne Griffiths who organised the petition for additional services about 2 years ago. This has been a fantastic team effort that has resulted in a huge public service improvement in our area."
