THE death of an LNG worker at South Hook must not be allowed to "stoke up fears" about the safety of the development in general, says Preseli Pembrokeshire's AM.
During an urgent question tabled by Mr Davies in the first session held at the Senedd since Adrianus van Ham's death, he expressed sympathies to his family and paid tribute to local emergency and rescue services.
But he added: "This tragic incident should not be used to stoke up fears about the general LNG developments. Sadly, with big industrial projects such as this, there are occasional accidents, and it is extremely sad that, in this instance, it was a fatal accident.
"I believe that the LNG developments will bring long-term economic benefits to Pembrokeshire and the whole of west Wales."
The Minister for Environment, Sustainability and Housing Jane Davidson agreed that it was important to stress that the accident had nothing to do with LNG as such but rather the type of crane used to construct the LNG jetty.
Mr Davies also asked her how long the inquiries into the accident would take to complete. "As to the timescale, the HSE is looking at the other crane platforms to ensure that they are safe. Once that work has been completed — crane platforms are used very widely worldwide — those platforms will be reopened. However, I cannot give you a timescale for that, although I expect it to be finished in the next few days, or for the final investigation, which will, of course, be as detailed as it needs to be."
