Labour Has Failed On School Building Modernisation

COMMENTING on proposed changes to the way school building projects are funded, Shadow Education Minister Paul Davies AM said:

"Labour has failed to fulfil its promise to make all school buildings in Wales fit for purpose by 2010.

"At the current rate – and with a backlog in repairs and modernisation already in excess of £800mn – this is unlikely to be met until at least 2020.

"Today's announcement does nothing to address this issue. The minister needs to spell out how he intends to achieve this and how this will be possible given recent cuts in the school building improvement budget."
