Pembrokeshire’s kidney dialysis patients could be treated at Withybush Hospital by the autumn, says Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies.
At the moment dialysis patients from as far afield as St David’s have to travel to Carmarthen for treatment.
But Mr Davies, who has lobbied hard to get a renal unit established in Haverfordwest, now hopes that a temporary facility will be open by the end of the year.
"I held a meeting with health minister Edwina Hart while she was in the county last week and she told me that she hopes to open a temporary unit at Withybush Hospital in the autumn or by the end of the year at the latest.
"This is great news as dialysis patients from Pembrokeshire are currently being treated as second class citizens. A local treatment centre is long overdue."
