Concerns amongst farmers in Pembrokeshire are still rife over the Assembly Government's Glastir land scheme. This week, the Assembly Government has announced that the application window for the All-Wales Element of the Glastir scheme will be deferred. Applications packs will now be sent out from the 4th October and applicants will have until 22nd November to return their completed applications.
Local Assembly Member Paul Davies said, "Many farmers remain extremely concerned on a number of issues, ranging from transition arrangements from other schemes to a basic lack of clarity over the information provided. The fact that the application deadline has been deferred will only further add confusion to what is already a complicated process.
"The application window for Glastir is only six weeks long, which does not provide a huge amount of time for farmers to access the right kind of information for filling out their applications. This situation could have been avoided had the Assembly Government listened to the voices of the industry who felt that the scheme was set up far too quickly.
"I hope that the Minister will make the details of the Glastir scheme far more accessible and easier to understand ahead of this application period. Efforts from the Welsh Assembly Government need to be redoubled so that farmers can make sound business decisions based on clear, quantifiable information."
