Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies has expressed fears that the cutbacks in ITV Wales will lead to Pembrokeshire being dropped from the news agenda.
Following broadcast watchdog Ofcom's announcement that ITV Wales can reduce its news output by 20 per cent, the company cut 17 jobs across Wales.
"I am concerned that the cutbacks at ITV Wales could eventually leave us with only one English-language local TV news station, thereby handing BBC Wales a monopoly on Welsh news coverage," said Mr Davies who is also the Shadow Culture Minister.
"I am worried there could be a real danger that Pembrokeshire will be dropped from the news agenda if the company feels it is uneconomical to continue its presence down here."
Mr Davies, who was also a member of the Assembly's cross-party Broadcasting Committee, added: "The Welsh Conservatives are calling for a united front against the proposed cuts and have written to all three parties at the Assembly asking for a joint approach.
"Anything that reduces consumer choice, especially in such an important area as reporting news events, is unwelcome. We are calling for a full debate to take place on the issue in the Senedd and I intend to contribute to any discussion that takes place."
