COMMENTING on concerns raised today about the level of public subsidy for the National Eisteddfod, Shadow Heritage Minister Paul Davies AM said:
"The Assembly Government must work with Eisteddfod organisers to ensure a satisfactory solution is reached.
"While public finances are being stretched across the board the National Eisteddfod is a centrepiece of Welsh life and one of the leading events on Europe's cultural calendar. It must be given every support so it can go from strength to strength in the years to come.
"The Eisteddfod is far more than just a week-long celebration of Welsh culture.
"In uncertain economic times it also has a role to play in promoting jobs and tourism, and in generating income for the host town."
