GDP figures released this morning show that the UK economy grew by 5.5% it in the period April to June, up from the previous estimate of 4.8% – showing that our economy is rebounding as we build back better.
Commenting, Welsh Conservative and Shadow Economy Minister Paul Davies MS said:
“This news gives me confidence that the unlocking of society and the economy is only the beginning of what has the potential to be a strong recovery from the pandemic.
“It’s encouraging that the British Government’s priority is getting people back into work and helping businesses thrive. Job security for millions of workers and more trade for businesses means greater prosperity.
“However, we need to ensure that growth is not concentrated in England. It’s essential we see devolved governments play their part in the recovery.
“Wales must become a nation of wealth-creators, but to do that Labour needs to drop its grievance agenda and start working in the interests of the Welsh people and deliver a powerhouse economy.”
