An independent review of the dairy sector in Wales has been welcomed by local Assembly Member Paul Davies. The Andy Richardson review, which put forward 26 recommendations, to help make the industry more competitive, sustainable and efficient. The Welsh Government has accepted nineteen recommendations in full, four in principle and three in part.
Mr Davies said “Dairy farmers in Pembrokeshire and further afield have faced significant challenges recently and so this report is very welcome indeed. A close partnership between producers, processors, retailers and the Welsh Government is going to be absolutely essential in securing the future of the Welsh dairy industry.”
He added, “I’m particularly pleased that a feasibility study will be taken to evaluate the potential of a market driven dairy processing facility in South West Wales, and I look forward to hearing more about this development in due course.”
