Concerns Over Drink-Fuelled Violence To Be Raised With Police

Violent drunken attacks in Fishguard that have left two men with serious injuries are to be discussed by politicians and police. Twenty-eight-year-old Dan Morgan had to have 52 staples and five metal plates in his head after he was attacked in Fishguard Square in April. And Clive Saunders had seven stitches in his face after an alleged assault on Fishguard High Street last weekend.

"I am very concerned that these two men have suffered horrific attacks after leaving pubs in the town," says Preseli
Pembrokeshire's Conservative AM Paul Davies.

"I have already written to the police raising concern over one of these incidents and I am also meeting the chief superintendent soon and I shall raise the issue again.

"These are shocking things to happen anywhere, but especially in a smallish town like Fishguard," he added.
"I will be seeking reassurance from the police that there are enough officers on the streets at closing time and that the
Pubwatch scheme is being enforced rigidly."

Mr Morgan, who teaches engineering, still suffers from the effects of the attack.
"I can still feel what I had done," he said. "I have got a scar that runs from ear to ear across my head and I sometimes have to wear a welding helmet for work and it presses on my scar."

He believes more needs to be done to keep Fishguard safe at night.
"I think there needs to be a more visible police presence on a Saturday night, they arrived quickly when I was attacked but you don't see them until there's a problem.
"I think if they were already there and visible then it would prevent problems from happening in the first place."
