Commenting on the announcement that Pembrokeshire County Council will be governed as an Independent-Labour coalition, Local Assembly Member Paul Davies said, "I am shocked that the Independent Group has chosen to form a coalition with the Labour party at County Hall, given that they already have enough numbers to govern alone, having 32 of the 60 county council members.
"On a national level, Labour has failed to improve our health service, failed to improve schools and failed to improve our economy. I am therefore deeply concerned at the Independent Group's dangerous gamble to govern Pembrokeshire with the Labour Party. The people of Pembrokeshire deserve better."
"I'm equally surprised that the Labour Party has joined this coalition, considering the criticisms they made of the Independent Group over the past eight years. Clearly, this was not the arrangement that the people of Pembrokeshire voted for at the local government elections some weeks ago."
Angela Burns, Assembly Member for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire also said, "This independent Labour coalition fills me with great unease and I cannot help but wonder if it's been put in place as a shield to try to get the Welsh Government off their backs over the issue of safeguarding Pembrokeshire's children. I have supported the Welsh Government's rightful enquiries into the activities of Pembrokeshire County Council and I hope they will continue to ensure the authority puts safeguarding children at the heart of their business."
