It has now been confirmed that local Fire and Rescue Services Co-Responder Units have now been fully reinstated by the Welsh Ambulance Trust with immediate effect. This reinstatement will mean that Co-responders will continue to complment the Welsh ambulance service by providing valuable life-saving support in an emergency until an ambulance arrives.
Commenting on this, Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies said: "I am pleased that the Co-responders service has been reinstated fully and that the Welsh Government has acknowledged the important service that they provide. The very nature of these units is to provide, where appropriate, quicker response times than standard ambulance vehicles. In rural areas, such as Pembrokeshire, these services cannot be undervalued."
"I have raised this issue in the Chamber with the First Minister and I am pleased to see the Welsh Government and the Welsh Ambulance Service have accepted how important these services are to our local communities. The Welsh Government must now ensure that long-term funding is now available for the Fire and Rescue Co-Responder Units, so that these services remain protected in the future."
